Gene Details:
- Gene ID: Seita.9G180000
- Gene Symbol: SiGFT2
- Gene Name: glutamate formiminotransferase 2
- Genome:
- Species: Setaria italica
Functional Descriptions:
- Nullification of GFTs fortifies bioactive folates in foxtail millet.
- The two other knockout plants carried a 1-bp insertion in SiGFT1 and a 2,946-bp deletion between the two sgRNAs that removed part of SiGFT2 (#11) and a 1-bp insertion in both SiGFT1 and SiGFT2 (#13); both combinations were predicted to successfully inactivate SiGFT1 and SiGFT2 simultaneously.
- Additionally, the content of 5-formyltetrahydrofolate (5-formyl-THF) decreased slightly in sigft1 knockout plants, but rose by 67.6%–84.9% in the double knockout lines, suggesting that SiGFT1 and SiGFT2 have different roles in 5-formyl-THF metabolism.
- SiGFT2 may have dual catalytic activity, like formiminotransferase-cyclodeaminase (FT-CD) in mammals.
