  • Expression of a ZmGSTU1-ZmGSTU2 chimera in the chloroplasts of tobacco resulted in the accumulation of the harderoporphyrin(ogen)-glutathione conjugate observed in the expression studies in bacteria.
  • The closely related ZmGSTU2 also catalyzed the S-glutathionylation of HPgen in vitro but was much less effective in disrupting heme synthesis in vivo.
  • ZmGSTU2 encodes a glutathione S-transferase subunit VI.
